Video Equipment

So you’re thinking of starting a YouTube channel, except you don’t have any Video Equipment. You don’t have a nice fancy tripod or a nice DSLR with multiple lenses. When you think about it, you get discouraged looking at the price of the Video Equipment.

Smartphones Work

Don’t be sad, with the advances in personal electronics these days. You don’t have to look too far for a pretty decent camera. Getting a cheap point and shoot camera from your local department store is one option. You can also use your personal smartphone. Most smartphones have cameras that are as good or sometimes better than a DSLR. A DSLR would range anywhere from $500 – 1,000.

You can start your channel with nothing more than your Smartphone camera. The other option is a digital point and shoot camera you pick up at the local department store. You don’t need expensive gear to be able to make a good story. You can use the crappiest gear but have a good story to start your channel with.

Starting My Channel

When I started my channel I started with a point and shoot digital camera that I got as a gift.  The camera would do 720 and had a horrible microphone. I then moved up to a GoPro Hero 3+ Silver edition.  The camera was great and I wrote an article that you can read GoPro Hero 3+ Silver Edition.  My most recent camera is a Canon G7x Mark II I love this camera.  This is the camera that a lot of the big Vloggers use, it’s nice because it has a rotating screen so I can see what I’m filming.  The camera also allows you to manipulate some of the settings like a DSLR.  I wrote a review of the G7x Mark II that you can read.

The point is you don’t need to start with the most expensive Video Equipment on the market.  You can start with whatever you have, as long as you can tell a good story.
