Jeep Wrangler through the years

Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most modified SUV in the United States. The Jeep has been around since 1986 and for the most part, the concept and style have stayed the same over the years. They make minor changes and upgrades here and there.

Willys MB

The Jeep was based off the Willys MB that was developed for use by the military. The first year of the Willys MB was developed for use in 1941. Willys later developed the Civilian Jeep or the CJ That was the first iteration of the Jeep Wrangler.

Aftermarket Parts

Since that time companies have been manufacturing aftermarket parts and people have been adding them to their Jeep Wrangler. This gives people the opportunity to make a Jeep functional for any purpose whether it’s rock crawling in Moab, going through the big mud bogging competitions, or going out in the hills on the weekend.

Jeep Wrangler 4 Door

Another purpose that people have found for the Jeep Wrangler is to use it as their daily driver. They come in a 4 cylinder or a 6 cylinder model and in 2006 Jeep rolled out the 3rd generation. Along with the 2 door model that has been standard, they rolled out a 4 door model.

Changes may be coming

The new year may have some new changes. Rumor has it, Jeep is adding a Pickup truck to the mix. According to Motor Trend, this is all a rumor.  Jeep has spoken about it, however, there is no confirmation on the subject.  I have done some further investigating, and there is speculation that they are going to name it the Jeep Scrambler.  1981 – 1986 Jeep developed the CJ-8 that you could get a half cab for and turn it into a truck.  They also did a Jeep Comanche that was more of a truck than the Scrambler. The Comanche was from 1985 – 1992.

The truck version of the Jeep Wrangler could be a good option for someone with a family that is looking to go out in the hills and do some camping.  However, as good as it may be, it might add some complications if you’re trying to do some serious offroading.  The longer wheelbase may make it harder for hill climbs and getting into tight locations.

As for the standard Jeep Wrangler models, they should be pretty much the same.  Jeep will undoubtedly come out with some additional packages that will make some minor changes to your Jeep Wrangler.  Jeep will usually have a few packages for a hard or soft-top.  They also have a few different suspension options.
