Harley Davidson Sport Bike.

Harley Davidson has announced that in 2020 it will be releasing a Harley Davidson Sport Bike. They announced it as a Future Streetfighter model.  For those of you that don’t know what a streetfighter is,  Wikipedia defined it as:

“Beyond simply removing fairings, specific changes that exemplify the streetfighter look are a pair of large, round headlights, tall, upright handlebars such as those on a motocross bike, and short, loud, lightweight mufflers.

Is The Sportster Dead?

Does this mean the end of the iconic Harley Davidson Sportster? The Sportster has been around since 1957. The Harley Davidson Sportster has been part of their entry level bikes. They are easy to ride, work on and customize. If you’re looking for a part to customize a Sportster, you’ll find multiple different options. Honestly, I hope this isn’t the death of the Sportster. I would like to own one of these iconic motorcycles in the future.

They have not announced any specs on the new Harley Davidson Sport Bike. However, they have announced this motorcycle as a 975 Streetfighter which indicates it could have almost 1000 CC’s. It appears to be a liquid cooled bike as well.

This is exciting news for the American Motorcycle community. As most riders know that most of the sport bikes come from across the pond.  However, this will give riders an American made option.

Buell Blast

Most of my audience know that I have a Buell Blast motorcycle. Which was a subsidiary of Harley Davidson, until they closed down the operation in 2010. That was an attempt at merging into the sport bike market. I’m not sure what changes they have made this time to guarantee that they won’t have the same problems they did back with the Buell.

This could make or break Harley Davidson

If this works out for the long haul, then Harley Davidson would have a good quality line up of a good variety of motorcycles. The only thing that could really shoot themselves in the foot, would be to completely focus on the sport bike arena and let the cruisers go. I think the Cruisers will still be the Bread and Butter of the Harley Davidson company.

This could be a make it or break it opportunity for the Harley Davidson brand.  It could launch their brand to a broader audience, or they could lose big.  Only time will tell.

What do you think of the Harley Davidson Sport Bike?  Do you think it will be good for the Harley Davidson brand?  Do you think this is the end of the Sportster? Leave a comment and let me know what you think.  You can also Contact Me if you would like.
