If you’re looking to start riding motorcycles, then you’ll be looking at your first Motorcycle. If you ask someone what the best Starter Motorcycle is? They would say something with a small engine, low on torque and horsepower. That makes sense, you don’t know how to control it, and you’re not sure what you’re doing. The smaller engine and bike will help you gain and build confidence pretty quickly. Most Motorcycle brands have some pretty good options for a Starter Motorcycle . Honda has the Rebel and the CB300R. Yamaha has the VStar 250 and they have the R3 if you’re looking for a sportbike. Most brands also have a Dirtbike or a Dual sport with a smaller engine. This gives you more options if that is what you’re looking for.
One thing you will want to be aware of is the top speed on the smaller sized engine. It may not get you up to highway speeds. You will need to keep that in mind while you’re looking at buying, as well as after the purchase. However, if you can get used to the small bike. You can move up, you won’t need to worry about this for too long.
Do You Have Experience?
However, If you have some experience with riding, whether it’s a dirtbike, quad or a motorcycle when you were young. You may be able to start on something bigger. Get something with 500 – 600 CC’s. The Yamaha hast the V-star 650 and the R6 and Honda has the Honda Shadow and CB650F. These are pretty decent sized engines. They will get you around and get you where you want to go.
However, if you are more confident in your abilities. There are a few options with the Harley Davidson Sportster, Yamaha Bolt, or a Honda Shadow. These 3 have 750 – 900 CC’s. These Motorcycles will keep you happy for a long time. Once you are more comfortable with these, the skies are the limits on what you can do.
You will want to be aware of what you’re doing. Motorcycles can be thrilling and riding can be an exhilarating feeling. However, things can turn bad in an instant. Take it slow, be careful and have some fun with it. If you are learning to ride a motorcycle, check out my article on Learning to Ride a Motorcycle and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation(MSF) Course.
